Saturday: Bowie Bay Sox 7, @ Binghamton Mets 4
Friday, Matt Harvey made his second AA start, and his home debut, and it was good: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 8 gb/2 ao.
Jordany Valdespin is crazy hot again: he has five straight multi-hit games going 12-for-23 with a double and a home run to raise his season totals to .302/.347/.469.
His OPS by month:
April - .604 (19 games)
May - .768 (25 games)
June - .914 (26 games)
July - 1.333 (four games)
There's something good happening here. He still needs to walk more, but he's gotten better every single month.
Jeurys Familia made his (triumphant?) return to the mound Monday and was pretty darn sharp considering it was his first appearance since June 18: 5 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 6 K. Sure, it's easy to love the fact that he's fanning over a batter an inning (57 K/50.2 IP) at AA. However, I want to see if Familia can drop his walk rate in the second half. At 23 walks in 50.2 innings, he's walking 4 BB/9. That's too many.
Sunday, Robert Carson had the kind of start I've come to expect: 6 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 HR, 5 gb/7 flyouts… Lots of runners. Not missing many bats. Just eh.
Slow start to Matt den Dekker's AA career: .179/.258/.232 in 14 games. Forget the batting average, I'm worried about the four walks and 16 strikeouts. The good news, I suppose? It's only two weeks and he has two more months at AA this year to figure it out.
