Now Commenting On:

AAA: @ Las Vegas 51s 11, Reno Aces (AZ) 1

Las Vegas moved  back to .500 by pounding out 15 hits against the Aces. It was remarkably balanced offensive performance, seven different players had two hits, but no one had three.

A couple of notable lines:

RF Kirk Nieuwenhuis: 2-for-4, BB. After a slow start with Vegas, Nieuwenhuis has hit safely in seven straight games, and is now hitting .297/.447/.730 with five homers in his last 10 games. Says here that he will get another chance in Queens this summer. This was his second game in a row in right, and his fourth in his last six in the corner. In related news, Mets "RF" Marlon Byrd has a .284 on-base percentage.

2B Wilmer Flores: 2-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI. The 22-year old Flores, the owner of a nine-game hitting streak, now has at least one double in each of his last four games and seven in his last six contests to give him 20 this year as part of a .292/.335/.470 line in 51 games. The bat is getting closer to being ready. Fun fact: In the big leagues, 2B Daniel Murphy has 17 doubles, a triple and four homers in 51 games as part of a .300/.333/.455 line. In AAA, Flores has a nearly identical 20 doubles, two triples and four homers. This level of offensive production most certainly plays: Murphy is 8th in baseball in wRC+ among second basemen.

1B Josh Satin: 2-4, HR, RBI, BB. Satin's now up to nine homers as part of a .320/.421/.515 line in Vegas with 33 walks against 41 strikeouts in 51 games. I have to give him credit, he's cut his strikeout rate down to a reasonable 18% this year. At 28-years-old, he's two and a half years older than Ike Davis and has played exclusively first base this year, but for one game in left field.
