"If what we can get for the future exceeds the value of the present, we'd have to look at that. But we're not anxious to do it." Alderson said. "We want to remain competitive."
In terms of Byrd's value at the deadline, Alderson characterized it as somewhere in between Carlos Beltran and Scott Hairston.
"I would say that Scott was more of a platoon player for us, although he had fallen into a starting role because of some other things," Alderson said. "Marlon maybe is a little more of an everyday guy, which makes him more central to what we're doing."
The Mets moved Beltran for Zack Wheeler before the 2011 trade deadline, but opted to hold onto Hairston before last year's deadline.
