Dylan Owen (promoted to AAA on Monday): 1.1 IP, 5 H, 7 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
3B Zach Lutz (pictured) had the best night of any Bison, going 2-3 with a pair of doubles.
AA: @ Erie Seawolves (PIT), Binghamton Mets 3Solo home runs from LF Brahiam Maldonado and C Kai Gronauer weren't enough to save the B-Mets in this one. Gronauer, who is 4-for-12 with a homer, is off to a solid start in his first five games.
Brandon Moore's first 2011 appearance was rough: 4.2 IP, 4 h, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, but Eric Niesen's second outing of 2011 was worse: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K.
A+: St. Lucie Mets 9, Fort Myers Miracle 2The lone Mets affiliate to pull out a win Monday, the St. Lucie Mets picked up hits from seven different players to support Collin McHugh. McHugh certainly had to deal with plenty of baserunners (6 H, 3 BB and a HBP) in 5 IP, but he managed to contain the damage despite picking up only on strikeout.
3B Jefry Marte was 2-4 with a double, his first extra-base hit of the year and a walk, his second game in a row with a free pass. Through five games he's hitting .294/.368/.353. It's nice to see Marte playing and hitting at the start of the year. Last year, a hamstring injury kept him out of action until April 21 and ended his season on July 22nd when he re-aggravated it.
1B Stefan Welch was 2-4 with a double and 3 RBI. The 22-year old hit .256/.325/.395 in 133 for St. Lucie Last year.
SS Wilmer Flores was 1-3 with a pair of walks. He's off to a .235/.364/.235 start with four walks in his first five games. Last year, he drew nine walks in 67 games at St. Lucie. He doesn't have an extra-base hit yet, but he too is clearly seeing more pitches this year.
A: @ Hickory Crawdads 9, Savannah Sand Gnats 1For the second straight day, the Gnats lost a game 9-1, after falling 9-1 in game one of their doubleheader Sunday. Savannah was held to just three hits, including a home run, from DH Javier Rodriguez, his first of the year. The 21-year old launched it into the jetstream blowing out to left center last night and now has three extra-base hits in his first four games.
With Rodriguez playing DH, Cory Vaughn, who'd started in LF for the first three games for the Gnats, shifted back to RF, where he'd played for Brooklyn, while Alonzo Harris got his first start in LF.
RHP Erik Goeddel made his first start since high school in 2007 and had trouble: 4 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 1 HR.
LHP Angel Cuan ran into trouble of his own in the seventh and eighth innings, producing a final line of 3.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 HR.
