Who is starting for the Phillies?
RHP Vince Velasquez (0-0, 2.55,) who had eight strikeouts in 5.2 innings in his last start at Colorado. He's allowed five earned runs in 17.2 innings across three starts so far this season -- he also threw a scoreless inning out of the bullpen in his first appearance of the season.
Who is starting for the Mets?
LHP Jason Vargas (1-0, 9.58 ERA) only went four innings in his last start, but that was considered a step in the right direction after his disastrous four-run, one-out performance from April 13 in Atlanta. He allowed one run in the four innings, a solo homer, but had to be lifted after throwing only 75 pitches. The Mets surely hope to get more length out of Vargas Wednesday, but they can afford to extend their bullpen a bit if needed with an off day on Thursday.
The Mets are off on Thursday before starting a three-game home series against the Brewers. On Friday, RHP Jacob deGrom (2-2, 3.68) is on track to come off the injured list and start, while Milwaukee is set to counter with RHP Chase Anderson (2-0, 3.00.)
