While the Mets have showed interest in free-agent catchers Wilson Ramos and Yasmani Grandal, they appear to have competition in the Los Angeles Angels.
Though Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen expressed his confidence in the catching tandem of Travis d'Arnaud and Kevin Plawecki, he has not shied away at upgrades at the position, including a potential trade for Marlins All-Star catcher J.T. Realmuto.
The 31-year-old Ramos recorded a .306/.358/.487 batting line with 15 home runs and 70 RBIs in 111 games last season with the Tampa Bay Rays and Philadelphia Phillies, and threw out 14 of 48 baserunners behind the plate.
Grandal, whom the Mets have been targeting, is also among the top catchers in free agency. The 30-year-old Grandal hit .241/.349/.466 with 24 home runs and 68 RBIs last season for the Dodgers.
