The Mets announced on Saturday that LHP Luis Avilan has been placed on the 10-day IL with left elbow soreness. He left Friday night's contest against the Brewers after just 0.2 innings on the mound with the injury.
Avilan has had a rough start to his first year with the Mets, owning a 9.28 ERA and 2.06 WHIP over 10.2 innings. He's allowed 11 earned runs and 17 hits, while striking out 11 and walking five over that span.
This is just another step back in his campaign, and another bullpen arm the Mets are without. Jeurys Familia is also on the IL with a Bennett lesion (bone spur), as the team announced the move on Wednesday.
Mets RHP Chris Flexen is being recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to fill Avilan's roster spot.
