2B Jordany Valdespin was 1-5 with an RBI from the top of the lineup. Adam Wogan says he's going to play at least four days a week in the AFL.
Eric Niesen was gave up a run on two hits, with a walk and a strikeout in his inning of work.
Venezuela3B Eric Campbell was 1-3 last night and is off to a 4-for-9 start with two doubles for the Caribes de Anzoategui. The team is managed by Julio Franco. Jack Voigt who was AAA Buffalo's hitting coach is the team's hitting coach, so he also brought Mike Hessman along for the ride although Hessman has not seen action in the team's first two games. Luis Rojas is listed as the team's Third Base Coach. I'm not sure if that's the same Luis Rojas who worked for Savannah this year.
After going 3-4 in his first game, SS Wilmer Flores was 0-4 with an RBI in last night's game for the Bravos de Margarita. Flores has played short in both of the Bravos first two games. He's joined on the roster by Henry Blanco and Manny Acosta.
The other SS on the Bravos roster are an uninspiring lot. The list includes: 19-year old Edgar Duran who played for Williamsport in the New York-Penn League where he hit .235/.269/.299 in 71 games, 27-year old Alberto Gonzalez who hit .247/.277/.301 in 186 AB for the Washington Nationals this year, 31-year old Carlos Leon, who's bounced around the Phillies system for six years, but did not play in the US in 2010, 25-year old Emilio Ontiveros who "hit" .193/.271/.233 for Jupiter in the FSL for the Marlins in 2010, and 27-year old Eider Torres, who hit .292/.320/.351 between the Rockies top two domestic affiliates in AA Tulsa and AAA Colorado Springs. Torres has played second in each of the Bravos first two games. It'll be interesting to see what happens to Flores' playing time as the season progresses.
Marcos Tabata (Aguilas), Manny Alvarez (Navegantes), and Jhonathan Torres (Leones), a trio of right-handed relievers have all appeared in one of their team's first two games.
