This past weekend, the Mets promoted LHP Robert Carson from Triple-A Las Vegas and designated Laffey for assignment.
In four appearances and two starts for the Mets, Laffey had a 7.20 ERA, allowing eight earned runs on 16 hits with four walks and nine strikeouts in 10 innings.

April 21: Laffey just had to go. I felt it was appropriate to give him a second start, and the cold weather might have provided for an unfair evaluation of what Laffey can do, but today was more of the same under much better weather conditions. He has a below average fastball and was unable to throw it for quality strikes. His secondary stuff wasn’t good enough to fool the opposition consistently, and big league hitters just hammered him. It’s too bad, but he just didn’t pitch big league-caliber baseball for the Mets.[/sny-accordion]
