Similarly, Joel Sherman of the New York Post says, “More and more the Mets are thinking they may have to spread their approximately 25 million in available dollars around to address multiple needs rather than lure one major player.”

Original Post, 7:18 am:

In an appearance on WNBC in New York,’s Jon Heyman said he disagrees with published reports that suggest the Mets will not spend money this off season.

Instead, Heyman feels the Mets might first look to spread their money around, filling multiple holes, before turning to a big free agent should all else fail.

i’m starting to hope this is true… the more people i talk with, the more i realize the trade market might be where it’s at this winter… there are some interesting names being floated around, from all-star left fielders to pitchers under 30 years old, and i would hope the Mets look their first, while signing a free agent or two, while keeping more cash on hand for the draft, than just go all-in for one or two big fish, leaving them vulnerable like the last few seasons
