- Flores has the fifth-most strikeouts in the VWL. More importantly, he's playing third base. He's played third in every game in which he's seen action.
- Aren't early season lines fun? Satin is leading the VWL in OBP and walks. He's played seven games defensively - three games at first base and four in left field. If his path to the big league roster is as the 25th man, adding the ability to play left is nice.
About Those PositionsThis is the first time in his professional life Satin has played the outfield. He saw action at first, second and third for both double-A Binghamton and triple-A Buffalo in 2011.
Don't read too much into what look like position switches here, particularly for Flores who played nine of his 31 games for the Bravos in 2010 at third base. The Mets kept him at shortstop for the entire 2011 season in St. Lucie. Still, if the Mets were interested in moving Flores off of short to third base, exposure to the position over the winter will only help.
Valdespin played second base exclusively (and briefly) for seven games the Tigres del Licey last year. The Mets had him split time between short and second in 2011.
The offensive environments in Venezuela and the Dominican are very similar so far. Through 84 games, the VWL is hitting .250/.341/.367 and teams are scoring 4.7 runs per game. Through 48 games, the DWL is hitting a similar .249/.328/.363 and teams are scoring 7.7 runs per game. This doesn't mean the level of play is the same, just that the level of scoring is a match.
