"It was more precautionary, " Terry Collins said of keeping Clippard out the past several days. "We're lucky to be in a situation where we can say one more day helps us."
Clippard's return could be important for the Mets as starter Matt Harvey is not expected to pitch more than six innings Sunday.
Collins also said Jacob deGrom won't skip a turn in the rotation, but didn't say when his next outing would be. Collins said Saturday deGrom would not make his scheduled start Tuesday against the Braves.
DeGrom (13-8, 2.64) has a 6.41 ERA in his past five starts. The 2014 NL Rookie of the Year has pitched a career-high 181 innings this season. Logan Verrett will pitch Tuesday.
