Now Commenting On:

According to SNY's Matt Dunn, Terry Collins intends to split up Johan Santana and Jon Niese in the rotation to start the season.

Collins said he isn't sure who will start the second game of the season, but would like to see Shaun Marcum pitch some more before deciding.

This can get a little overblown, because at some point a day off, an injury, or some other reason will disrupt the rotation in some capacity and, assuming both are healthy, they could end up pitching on consecutive days. However, it makes sense to split Santana and Niese up as much as possible, not so much to keep them pitching back-to-back, but to keep the right-handed pitchers from pitching in three consecutive games.
