The Brooklyn Cyclones(51-24) completed their regular season with a 6-5 victory over Tri-City. The Cyclones finished one win shy of the franchise record for wins of 52, set in their inaugural season of 2001. The Cyclones also tied the franchise record for home record at 30-8, also shared by the 2001 team. The Cyclones will open the playoffs with a best two-out of three series vs. the Jamestown Jammers.
The weekend was also capped by a record setting performance by Cory Vaughn. Vaughn, the Mets 2010 4th round pick, launched his franchise record 14th homerun of the season on Sunday, capping a stellar statistical season (.307/.396/.557). Vaughn also set a new franchise record with 56 rbi. Vaughn finished 2nd in the NYPL with 14 HR and 56 RBI, he also led the league in SLG. (.557) and OPS (.953).
Also setting a franchise record, was fellow OF Darrell Ceciliani. Ceciliani finished with a franchise high .351 batting average, making him the 1st Cyclone to ever win the NYPL batting title. Ceciliani also led the league in runs scored (56), hits (95), and triples (12); all which are franchise records. He was also in the top-10 in doubles (19), stolen bases (21), OBP. (.410), SLG. (.531), and OPS (.941).
On the mound, Yohan Almonte won the NYPL ERA title, with a mark of 1.91. The 20-year old Amonte also lead the league with 89 2/3 IP and a WHIP of 0.93. Almonte finished the season with a record of 8-4, holding opponents to a .207 batting average. He gave up only 68 hits in 89 2/3 innings.
As a team the Cyclones lead the NYPL in hitting (.283), hits (713), triples (37), HR (64), SLG (.445), and OPS (.793). They also finished 2nd in runs scored (405) and OBP (.348). The Cyclones finished with a team low 3.05 ERA and 1.23 WHIP.
