Now Commenting On:

David Wright feels this winter may be the time for the Mets to consider trading top young pitcher for a bona-fide, impact hitter, he said this past weekend (Star-Ledger, Aug. 4).

“You have a guy that’s a proven ace of the staff coming back, a guy that’s a proven closer coming back from Tommy John," Wright said, speaking about Matt Harvey and Bobby Parnell, both of whom are recovering from Tommy John surgery this season. “So, yeah, that’s when you get to the point where it’s decision time for what is that final piece? What are those final two pieces? That’s when you realistically think about making a move like that. ... I think we’re getting to the point where we’re really close.'

The Rockies recently sent a sizable contingent to watch Mets pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard (NY Post, July 31). There had been seen several reports in July indicating Colorado’s willingness to trade SS Troy Tulowitzki and OF Carlos Gonzalez, which was followed by speculation the Mets and other teams were interested.

In the days before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, it was reported that Tulowitzki and Gonzalez were more likely to be traded this winter, not this summer (CBS Sports, July 30).

Meanwhile, this offseason, the Marlins intend to either trade Giancarlo Stanton or sign him to a contract extension (Cerrone, Aug. 4).
