He stole just 28 bases the last two seasons combined.
"When the situation presents itself, I feel like I have the ability to take a base here and there," Wright told Mike Kerwick of the Bergen Record.
"I’m not going to steal bases for the sake of trying to get a certain [number of] bases or for the sake of doing it. I’m going to do it for a reason," he said.
I love this. It's the same thing we saw happen with Carlos Beltran. Basically, Wright is only going to go when it makes sense and he knows he can make it. This seems obvious -- or like something every player should do -- but the difference is his experience. When coupled with instincts, it'll make for a bump up in stolen bases, as well as success rate.
