Now Commenting On:

In four starts since being promoted from Triple-A, rookie RHP Jacob deGrom has a 2.42 ERA, 25 strikeouts in 26 innings, but has yet to win a game.

He left this past Saturday's game with a one-run lead in the seventh inning, but suffered another no-decision.

“It definitely helps each time to do well, to help prove that I can pitch here," he said after the game. "That helps a lot to keep having quality (starts)."

He's getting good results, and his 11 strikeouts on Saturday were impressive. However, he's also getting batters to hit right at his fielders, which is something that will not last forever. It's also worth noting he's walking too many hitters, while already giving up four home runs. In other words, while I like the 2.24 ERA, and swing-and-miss stuff, I'm cautiously optimistic. I fear, eventually, he's going hit a rough stretch, when some of those balls start dropping for hits.
