Mets RHP Jacob deGrom called in to Mets Hot Stove, presented by GEICO, on Thursday night, and discussed a potential multi-year extension, the protocol under new manager Mickey Callaway, and more.
"There had been a little bit of talks before we agreed on a one-year arbitration deal," deGrom said about the potential extension. "And it never really went anywhere, so we decided to go one year. And then I had heard that it could go into Spring Training or possibly into the season, but honestly haven't talked that much about it."
Regarding Callaway, deGrom said he recently met him for the first time and that they've been on the same page about his offseason throwing program.
DeGrom also believes he and the other pitchers can be leaders in the clubhouse.
"We have a tight group of starters," he said, "and I think everyone is pulling in the same direction.
