“Hopefully it ends up in a place where I’m a Met and everybody is happy about that,” Dickey said yesterday at the Harlem Dream School, where he participated in a book campaign for kids.
According to Puma's source, if Dickey receives a contract extension, it would almost definitely eliminate the possibility he is traded this offseason.
Dickey said he is understanding of rumors that suggest he could be traded, because he believes Sandy Alderson's job is to do what's best for the New York Mets. However, he added, "At the end of the day, this is where I want to be."
It feels like Ownership and Sandy Alderson are first focused on reaching a conclusion with David Wright, after which they'll pivot toward dealing directly with Dickey. I'm guessing one move has something to do with the other... And, yes, they can multitask, but it reads like Dickey and his agent have been doing basic, preliminary negotiations with Alderson's assistants, which is normal. Alderson will likely hear back from John Ricco and Paul DePodesta (regarding Dickey's demands and the trade market for his talent) at which point the GM will make a recommendation to Ownership on how best to proceed.
