Mets 1B Dominic Smith (strained right quad) hit in the cage, jogged, and did on-field drills today, he told reporters in Port St. Lucie.
He had resumed hitting on Tuesday.
Smith said on Tuesday that he felt better, but that he wasn't putting a timetable on when he might return.
"I feel good," Smith said. "I feel better -- way better."
The 22-year-old Smith played his first game on Saturday after Callaway benched him Friday for showing up late to a team meeting. He went 1-or-1 with two runs scored, and suffered the injury during the game.
As of now, Smith is expected to start the season in Triple-A, with veteran Adrian Gonzalez expected to be the starting first baseman in the majors.
