The Least You Should Know:

[sny-box color="fff"]Marlon Byrd hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning, after the Mets had been just 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position.

Jeremy Hefner let up two runs and two hits in six innings, after which the bullpen tossed three scoreless innings in relief.

The Rockies scored both runs in the second inning, due in part to mental error by Zack Lutz and a throwing error by Josh Satin all on the same play.[/sny-box]

A 7-4 road trip - who would have thought? This was a fun end to what's been an unexpectedly enjoyable stretch of baseball.

Another day, another late-game Marlon Byrd homerun. He's been just huge for the team, a much-needed legitimate power threat. It would be great if the team can make a good trade for him, but until that happens, it's nice having him fill out the middle of the lineup. He also showed off his value in the field, cutting down Cuddyer trying to stretch a ninth-inning leadoff single into a double.

Hefner pitched well again and worked around some defensive miscues behind him, including an unfortunate incident in the second when a Lutz mental lapse and a Satin throwing error combined to plate a run. Hefner was lifted for a pinch hitter after throwing only 80 pitches, ending the night with a no-decision, though he definitely looked good enough for the win.

Another strong showing on the night was some nice hitting from Daniel Murphy, who went 2 for 4 without striking out. He made a lot of good contact and looked generally more in control of his at-bats than he has in some time. If he can get hot going into this last stretch before the All-Star break, that could be a big boost for this team.
