The Least You Should Know:

[sny-box color="fff"]Jordanny Valdespin won the game with a walk-off grand slam.

David Wright tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning, with two outs, scoring Mike Baxter from third with a line drive to right field.

Matt Harvey pitched in to the sixth inning, struck out seven and walked one. He let up three runs (all off the bat of Matt Kemp).

Four Mets relief pitchers pitched three innings of shutout baseball.

This is the Mets first walk-off grand slam since Kevin McReynolds in 1991.[/sny-box]

Following the game, Terry Collins said Valdespin gets pumped up for these opportunities; Mike Baxter is a baseball player; Harvey pitched well, but Kemp is a helluva hitter.

It's worth noting that Collins referred to Harvey as his 'ace.'

Well, the Game Ball gets cut in half, one side goes to Valdespin, the other goes to Carl Crawford's glove, which helped Baxter reach base to lead off the ninth inning. Crawford charged on Baxter's line drive, but he was in too far, the ball ricocheted in to center field and Baxter hustled to second. Ruben Tejada set down a perfect bunt to move Baxter to third, and Wright went the other way with a pitch outside to tie up the game.

Nice work by Valdespin, who started the at bat by taking a strike. He then crushed a ball right down the plate. He's had some really nice at bats this year, better than I expect from him, and this one was no different. He was clearly just looking to make contact with a nice, calm swing... and he did. I'm really, really impressed with how Valdespin is developing as a player. I hope it continues.

This win was a total team effort tonight, from Baxter to Valdespin to the bullpen to Wright... nice work.
