Now Commenting On:

The Mets lost to the Nationals by the score of 8-5 today in Viera.

The Least You Should Know...

  • Matt Harvey allowed two earned runs with six strikeouts in four innings.
  • Bobby Parnell had his first rough outing of the spring, allowing four runs - three earned - in an inning of work, although he fell victim to a Lucas Duda error on a single by Bryce Harper.
  • Rob Carson and Latroy Hawkins combined for two innings of scoreless relief.
  • Marlon Byrd continued his strong spring with two hits and an RBI.

I understand Duda's defense will always be problematic, no matter where he plays on the field. However, as Sandy Alderson has put it time and time again over the last couple of years, Duda is going to have to be able to compensate for his problems in the field by producing at the plate. If he can't do that - and he has yet to show he can do it consistently - then it's going to get harder and harder for Terry Collins to continue to run Duda out there on a regular basis.

Harvey got off to an uneven start this afternoon, but he settled in nicely and cruised through his final three innings of work. I thought he did an outstanding job gathering himself, adjusting and putting his rough first inning behind him; that was one of the bigger positives to take away from his start today.

The Mets return home to face the Tigers tomorrow afternoon at Tradition Field, with Dillon Gee facing Doug Fister at 1:10 pm.
