Gee was a bit erratic today, but he was able to pitch around it and otherwise looked real strong. His fastball velocity was also right where it was before he went down with the clot last year; he is showing no ill effects from that, which is the biggest positive of all.
I really hope Valdespin is finally coming into his own. He has power, first-to-third speed, and is showing his versatility both in the infield and outfield. If he can mature professionally and simply let his talent tell the story, he can answer a lot of questions for this club going forward.
Travis d'Arnaud was hit by a pitch in his forearm, but he appeared just fine. He said after he left it felt a little tight, but he didn't think it was going to be an issue. The Mets do not need anything to happen to d'Arnaud - he needs to play and he needs to continue to play and ensure he remains on track to start the season.
The Mets return home to face the Astros at Tradition Field tomorrow afternoon, with Jeremy Hefner facing Alex White at 1:10 PM.
