Mets 1B Dominic Smith suffered a strained right quad, and will undergo an MRI on Monday to see the severity of it.
Smith just returned to the Mets' lineup yesterday, after manager Mickey Callaway benched him due to him showing up late to a team meeting. he went 1-or-1 with two runs in New York's second spring training game on Saturday.
"We had a private conversation and we both came to a clear understanding," Smith said about talking with Callaway on the benching. "Like I said, stuff like yesterday, it's in the past and today's a new day."
Now, Smith is hoping that his injury won't hinder his ability to compete for the first-base slot on the Opening Day roster. As of now, he is expected to start the season in Triple-A, with veteran Adrian Gonzalez expected to be starting in the majors.
