Mets INF Wilmer Flores says former third base coach Tim Teufel will be missed this season.
Teufel, 58, was replaced as third base coach by Glenn Sherlock on Nov. 15, but will stay with the Mets as a roving infield instructor and club ambassador.
"He always helped me," Flores said Tuesday night at the Thurman Munson Awards Dinner benefitting the AHRC NYC, according to Kristie Ackert of the NY Daily News. "He basically taught me how to play the position. He helped me a lot."
Flores said he was "surprised" when the Mets replaced Teufel, adding that he's happy Teufel is remaining in the organization.
The Mets hired Sherlock in part because he'll also work with the team's catchers -- a role that was vacant in 2016 after Bob Geren left the coaching staff to join the Dodgers' coaching staff.
Teufel played for the Mets from 1986 to 1991 and has worked for the organization since 2007.
