Binghamton Mets 7, @ Erie Seawolves (DET) 6 (7 innings)
After dropping the opener, the BMets used a pair of homeruns - from 2B Danny Muno and from RF Travis Taijeron to win the nightcap. The 24-year-old Taijeron (pictured) was 2-for-3 with a double and a homer. He's now hitting .253/.332/.519 in 46 games in Binghamton with 23 XBH and 56 strikeouts. His batting average suffered in a .183/.294/.338 July, but the Californian is off to a quick start in August (10-for-27; .370/.433/.741).
Danny Muno was 2-for-4 with a double and a homer in the nightcap as well. Also 24, he's hit .256/.393/.402 in 106 games with 77 walks against 80 strikeouts. I asked a scout recently, who'd seen Muno what he thought of him. He grunted, and moved the conversation in another direction.
Logan Verrett in game two: 4.2 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 2 HR. Verrett's 4.40 ERA is above the Eastern League average of 4.03. He has thrown the second-most innings in the Eastern League, and thanks to the fourth-lowest walk rate among starters has the second-lowest WHIP (1.12) but is second in homers allowed (20).
