Noah Syndergaard: Syndergaard is making his third, and possibly last, start as Dillon Gee is set to return from the disabled list. The Mets top prospect is making a strong case to stay put in the rotation going 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA and 11 strikeouts in his first two starts.
Gerrit Cole: Cole, the National League Pitcher of the Month in April, has established himself as the ace of this Pirates staff. He is 5-2 with a 2.40 ERA and 53 strikeouts on the year. Cole has faced the Mets twice in his career but has never earned a win. In those two starts combined, Cole tossed nine innings, allowed eight earned runs, and was tagged with the loss on both occasions.
Mets Notes: The Mets (24-18) have won four of their last six games. First baseman Lucas Duda has batted .372 in his last 12 games and has a 10-game hitting streak at Pittsburgh.
Pirates Notes: The Pirates (18-22) are tied for third place in the NL Central. Pirates shortstop Jung Ho Kang has posted a .362 average at PNC Park, including .457 in his last six home games. Third baseman Josh Harrison is hot at the plate right now going 16 for 29 over his last six games.
