Now Commenting On:

Matt Harvey (1-2, 3.86 ERA) will start for the Mets tonight.

Harvey is coming off a difficult outing against the Padres in which he allowed five runs in five innings. Harvey has allowed 22 base runners in 16 1/3 innings so far this season.

Paul Maholm (9-7, 3.75 ERA) will start for the Braves tonight.

Maholm pitched well in his first start with the Braves despite losing on August 4 - he allowed three runs in seven innings in a 3-2 defeat to the Astros. Over his last six starts, Maholm has gone 4-1 with a 1.41 ERA, having allowed more than one earned run once in that span. Maholm pitched a scoreless inning of relief against the Mets in July while with the Cubs - he is 4-3 with a 4.45 ERA in 11 appearances and ten starts in his career against New York.

Harvey really struggled with his command last Sunday, especially the command of his change-up. He was throwing strikes, but was struggling with the quality of those strikes pretty much from the beginning. In additon, Harvey didn't do a good job of adjusting when it was clear his change-up wasn't effective - rather, he kept going with it and kept centering the pitch in the middle of the zone. He is going to face a lot of tough left-handed hitters against the Braves tonight, and so it's going to be important that his change-up is working and moving down. If it isn't, he will quickly need to go to his breaking pitches as his secondary weapon off the fastball.
