Niese Notes: Has allowed a career-high 23 earned runs in past four starts (1-1, 10.53 ERA). He has given up five-run innings in each of past three starts. He also did it in 2010, and Niese is now the only pitcher to have done it since. The only pitchers who have allowed more innings of five or more runs since 2008 (Niese’s first year in the majors) are A.J. Burnett (17) and Rick Porcello (16).
