Who is starting tonight for the Mets?
LHP Jason Vargas (13.86 ERA/8.90 FIP, 2.68 WHIP in 12.1 innings over three starts), who is making his return to the starting rotation after getting skipped the last time through.
Vargas has gotten clobbered in all three of his starts this season, allowing a combined 19 runs (all earned) on 26 hits.
Mets manager Mickey Callaway said recently that Vargas altered his mechanics while working his way back from the broken bone in his right (non-throwing) hand, since he was throwing from behind a protective screen during all but one of his rehab outings. The Mets have been working to correct Vargas' mechanical flaw.
