Need to Know: Anthony Rizzo hit a long solo home run off Vic Black in the seventh to give the Cubs a 5-4 lead. The Mets had climbed out of a 4-0 hole to even things up, scoring two runs in the sixth on a pair of RBI singles and two more in the seventh when Andrew Brown hit a long two-run homer. Shoddy defense by the Mets and an overturned out call at home plate led to three runs for the Cubs in the second inning as they took a 3-0 lead. In the fourth, the Cubs extended their lead to 4-0 on a run-scoring ground out.
Game Ball: DeGrom, who pitched better than his line indicated. If the Mets played even adequate defense behind deGrom, the results would've been very different.
What's Next: The Mets open a three-game series on Friday night in San Francisco. Jon Niese gets the start for the Mets, opposed by Matt Cain for the Giants. The game starts at 10:15 p.m.
