Result: Behind a brilliant performance from Bartolo Colon, the Mets topped the Cardinals by the score of 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon in St. Louis to avoid a three-game sweep.

Need to Know: Bartolo Colon delivered his first career extra-base hit, doubling to lead off the sixth. Eric Young, Jr. then drove in Colon with a double, and David Wright brought Young, Jr. home with a bloop single to right field as the Mets went ahead 2-1 in the sixth. In the seventh inning, the Mets extended their lead to 3-1 when Eric Young, Jr. lofted an RBI double down the left field line. Jenrry Mejia allowed a run in the ninth on an infield single, and was removed with two outs in favor of Dana Eveland, who retired Matt Adams to end the game. Matt Carpenter greeted Bartolo Colon with a leadoff homer in the first as the Cardinals took a 1-0 lead.

Game Ball: Colon, who was close to untouchable over eight innings of work, and who ignited the game-winning rally with his first career double.
