Result: The Mets took the series opener from the division-rival Phillies, 7-1.

Need to Know: The Mets exploded for four runs in the first inning against A.J. Burnett, quickly snapping a streak of nine consecutive games scoring three or fewer runs. Bartolo Colon shut out the Phillies until the eighth inning, when consecutive doubles plated Philadelphia's lone run. Colon scattered 10 hits and struck out six to pick up his 10th win of the season and increase his potential trade value to contending teams. Travis d'Arnaud had three hits and extended the Mets' lead with a three-run home run in the fifth inning. The homer was his seventh of the season and fourth in 96 at-bats since returning from a short stint at Triple-A Las Vegas. Juan Lagares added two hits and two RBI, snapping a six-game hitless skid.

Game Ball:  Colon, who cruised through seven innings before tiring in the eighth, after being staked to a big lead in the first.

What’s Next: The Mets will look to improve to three games under .500 for the first time since June 4 in the second game of their series with the Phillies on Tuesday. Dillon Gee (4-3, 3.49) will take the mound in his fourth start since being activated from the DL, facing off against Cole Hamels (5-5, 2.72).
