Mets LH reliever Sean Gilmartin threw five innings Thursday starting in place of Steven Matz against the Phillies.
In what was Gilmartin's first start of the season, ge struck out three batters and allowed two runs and three hits, throwing 44 of 70 pitches for strikes. He retired 11 of the first 12 batters he faced in a game that lasted just 2 hours, 23 minutes.
"My focus was to go out there and just get quick innings," Gilmartin later said. "I knew it was a situation where we were sort of shorthanded. The game last night was kind of funky, so my goal was just to go out and give the team as many innings as I had in me."
