Free-agent relievers Joel Hanrahan and Ryan Madson are available, working their way back, have experience as closers and could be possible fits for the Mets (Heyman (SI.com) Apr. 2).

Kyle Farnsworth will join the Mets late Wednesday afternoon, replacing Bobby Parnell, who has a partially torn ligament in his right elbow. Parnell is expected to rest and miss at least two weeks before starting a throwing program.

According to reports, Hanrahan had been planning to hold a showcase for interested teams in late March, but no subsequent reports indicate if that ever happened. He had been hitting 90-92 mph during his rehab from Tommy John and flexor tendon surgery (Rosenthal (FoxSports) Mar. 14), which is still shy of the mid-90s fastball he featured prior to having season-ending surgery in May last year.

Madson had been looking to sign a a major league deal (Zolecki (MLB.com) Feb. 14) following positive reports from offseason throwing session for interest teams.

The Red Sox, Tigers, Phillies, Orioles and Yankees were all rumored to be seeking back-of-the-bullpen relief pitchers toward the end of Spring Training.
