Now Commenting On:

The Mets are reportedly looking to swap Ike Davis for a pitcher, and the Orioles and Brewers seem to be their most likely trade partner...

In talks with the Orioles about Davis, the Mets asked for LHP prospect Eduardo Rodriguez, but Baltimore declined (Encina, Dec. 31). The Orioles may be close to trading for a hitter (Kubatko, Jan. 1), but there is no evidence the deal is or isn't with the Mets.

Sandy Alderson is obviously trying to get the best possible pitching prospect for Ike, but - at this point - he is only being offered mid-tier, Double-A pitching (Cerrone, Dec. 31). So far, he's been turned down when asking for Rodriguez, Pirates RHP Nick Kingham (Perrotto, Dec. 17), and Brewers RHP Tyler Thornburg (McCalvy, Dec. 1).

In early December, it was reported that the Brewers intended to move quickly to get a first baseman (Haudricourt, Dec. 12), yet they have still not made an acquisition to fill that need. They reportedly still have interest in Davis (Puma, Dec. 27), but have also been linked to free-agent 1B Michael Young.

The Pirates and Rays had been to the Mets earlier this winter. However, the Pirates recently traded for Chris McGuiness and the Rays signed James Loney, which presumably took them out of the running for Davis.
