It's now not only an expression: Mets infielder Wilmer Flores is the king of the walk-off.
Flores hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 10th inning in Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader to lead the Mets to a 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies, his eighth-career walk-off hit and 10th walk-off RBI, which surpassed David Wright for the most in franchise history.
"It never gets old," Flores said after the game.
Monday's walk-off homer gives Flores four walk-off RBIs this season:
- A walk-off homer in a 3-2 win over the Brewers on April 15
- A walk-off sac fly in a 5-4 win over the Diamondbacks on May 19
- A walk-off single in a 4-3 win over the Pirates on June 26
Of his eight walk-off hits, four have been home runs. He hit a walk-off homer July 22, 2017, against the A's, but his most renowned one was his walk-off homer in a 2-1 win over the Nationals on July 31, 2015.
