Now Commenting On:

Jacob deGrom did not give up a hit until the fifth inning Friday night against the Phillies.

In the end, he pitched 7 innings, allowed four hits, gave up one un-earned run, walked two and struck out five batters.

“He was very, very good,” Terry Collins said after the game. “He was walking that tightrope. You can’t make a mistake because we don’t hardly have any runs on the board. He’s unfazed by that.”

DeGrom has pitched at least six innings in 14 of his 18 starts this season, during which he has allowed three runs or fewer in 13 games.

He is 7-6 with a 2.94 ERA in his rookie season with the Mets.
