Mets OF Jay Bruce is in Tuesday night's starting lineup after not starting on Monday night due to plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Bruce eventually pinch-hit in the eighth inning of the Mets' 8-6 loss to the Nationals.
"This is something that I dealt with a little bit in Spring Training, and I want to do everything I can to really nip it in the bud and knock it out," Bruce said before Monday's game. "Not have it be a lingering issue."
Bruce dealt with plantar fasciitis early on in Spring Training, and said it's been bothering him the last few days.
"It could have been a lot of things," he said. "Guessing it has something to do with the weather. Some of these games you stand around a little bit. … this is not something I've really dealt with a lot in the past. It started bothering me a little bit last year and I missed a few games in Spring Training."
Bruce, who is hitting .234/.345/.404 with one HR and five doubles in 15 games this season, was hopeful he would be back in the lineup quickly.
"We made progress and we're trending in the right direction for sure," he said. "And I definitely plan on being in there tomorrow."
