Jeff McNeil is not in the Mets' lineup on Wednesday night because he "tweaked" his knee "a little bit" during Tuesday night's game, manager Mickey Callaway said.
Callaway added the knee had been bothering McNeil ever since he banged it into the fence in Spring Training.
McNeil will be available to enter later in the game on Wednesday and should be back in the lineup on Thursday for the Mets' home opener against the Nationals, Callaway said, adding that there are no tests scheduled for McNeil at this point.
With McNeil out of the lineup, J.D. Davis is getting the start at third base, with Brandon Nimmo in left field and Keon Broxton in center field.
McNeil is hitting .400/.471/.667 in five games (17 plate appearances) this season.
