The Mets don't plan to pursue a deal with cricket star Kieran Powell, according to Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal (Jan. 14).
The Mets worked out Powell at their training facility in Port St. Lucie on Jan. 9, according to Devon Teeple of the Examiner (Jan. 12).
The Yankees also had a representative at Powell's public workout in Florida this week (Jan. 12, 2016).
Earlier this week, ESNY's Vincent Rapisardi talked with Powell about his attempt to play MLB, which you can listen to here...
Powell, 25, is considered one of the best cricket batsman in the world, according to the Examiner. He has been playing the sport at its highest level since he was 16 years old. However, due to a recent contract dispute, Powell has decided to take some time off from the game and explore other opportunities, including the transition to baseball.
The Dodgers and Brewers are among several other teams that have expressed interested in Powell.
