Now Commenting On:

Kyle Farnsworth has been outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas and seems likely to refuse the assignment and become a free agent, according to multiple reports.

Farnsworth served as the team's closer as recently as Monday. He had signed a 45-day consent waiver and Wednesday was the final cutoff. The Mets now only have to pay him for the 45 days, saving them $750,000 (ESPN, May 14).

"I am very bitter right now," Farnsworth said after being told the news. "Hopefully I'll find a team where I can play against this one," he added (Knobler, May 14).

Reliever  Josh Edgin is reportedly on his way to New York from Triple-A Las Vegas (RubinCarig, May 14).
