According to Martino, Drew's medicals and link to draft-pick compensation have scared off all interested teams, "and the there is nothing new between him and the Mets."
Drew's name has not appeared in a post on MLB Trade Rumors since early March, at which time he was reportedly still seeking a multi-year deal and willing to wait until June to find a new team.
In late March, I said Ruben Tejada would get through at least April to keep the starting shortstop position. So far, it's still his to lose. Tejada has looked better in the field, but he keeps struggling with the bat. In the event Tejada stumbles further, I believe Sandy Alderson will sooner promote Triple-A SS Wilmer Flores in May than sign Drew or trade for M's SS Nick Franklin, who was all the rage in the rumor mill during February.
Frankly, I still feel Alderson's best shot at trading for a shortstop is with Arizona. Team insiders said in March that low-level talks between the Mets and D-Backs were legit, as both teams spent time scouting one another's systems. I've heard Arizona left liking Rafael Montero, Kevin Plawecki and Travis d'Arnaud. But, who knows what their goal is right now, given their recent struggles in the NL West.
In the event the Mets are still .500 in June, Tejada isn't hitting, Flores isn't ready and talks with Arizona remain quiet, maybe, maybe rumors about Drew will resurface. Otherwise, I think Drew's best shot at a deal remains with Toronto, Detroit and Houston.
