Now Commenting On:

The Mets announced they have acquired INF Brandon Hicks from the A's for cash considerations.

Hicks, 27, hit .172 with three home runs and seven RBI in 64 at-bats over 22 games with the A's last season. He has combined to hit .133 with three home runs and eight RBI in 55 career major league games since 2010.

He spent most of the 2012 season with Triple-A Sacramento in the Pacific Coast League and hit .244 with a .350 OBP, 18 home runs and 61 RBI in 90 games.

Hicks can play all four infield positions - given that it's unlikely the Mets bring back Ronny Cedeno (he reportedly wants to search for a starting job), the Mets need to find depth on the infield, especially at second base and shortstop. Hicks probably won't be guaranteed a roster spot in camp, but I can see the Mets acquire more players like Hicks to create competition come February and March.

Still, I would like to see the Mets find a more established utility player, like Cedeno...
