Now Commenting On:

The Mets activated LHP Jon Niese from the DL and designated reliever Buddy Carlyle for assignment after Sunday's game.

According to Terry Collins, Niese will start Monday in Seattle, his first game action since going on the DL on July 6 with a left shoulder strain.

The DL stint was sandwiched around the All-Star break, so Niese ended up missing just one start.

He is 5-4 with a 2.96 ERA this season.

Daisuke Matuszaka will move to the bullpen to replace Carlyle to open a spot in the rotation for Niese.
