Now Commenting On:

Matt Harvey will do his rehab with the team in New York during homestands and work at their spring training complex in Port St. Lucie when the Mets are on the road, GM Sandy Alderson said Tuesday.

In June, when he gets closer to pitching off the mound, he will transition to doing his work full time in Florida.

“I think he’s happy with that arrangement," said Alderson. "We’re happy with that arrangement. We think it will work well so we’re going to go ahead on that basis.”

Harvey had Tommy John surgery in October, 2013, and is expected to miss all of the 2014 season.

Frankly, I prefer Harvey do his rehab in a log cabin, far removed from civilization, focused on getting healthy and listening to the soundtrack from Rocky IV, but apparently I don't get a say in the matter...

Regardless of where it happens, Harvey's most important responsibility should be to get back on field and return to being 100 percent awesome. That's it. It isn't to inspire his teammates, be a leader or enjoy life as a New Yorker. If that can happen in New York being around his teammates, great. If it can only happen in St. Lucie, fine. If working in two different locations is OK, that's fine too. I don't really care where he works and why, just so long as he's focused on working to get back to being amazing.
