"This has been about player performance," Alderson said, when asked if he has considered firing the coaching staff.
Alderson said the problems the Mets are having should fall on his shoulders, not the coaches.
I don't know that I totally believe this, since he has to give his manager cover. This is not to say Terry is in trouble. I don't think he is. It's just, Alderson can't go on radio and cut Terry's knees out from under him, then expect the guy to lead a young team out of a dark tunnel. He has to let players know Terry is boss, even if he isn't...
In regards to his own work, I alluded to this the other day, which is that if things do not turn around in the next 18 months, I've heard from people in baseball that Alderson will take blame and step aside... despite having an option in his contract for 2015. I don't think that's what he wants to do. I'm sure he'd rather get this right, start winning and hand over the reigns to a ship headed in the right direction. But, if that's not happening, and he truly believes he is responsible, I think he'll let us know it...
