With Mets LHP Jason Vargas scratched and headed to the DL, Mickey Callaway decided to hand Jerry Blevins his first start in 533 MLB appearances. He and RHP Tim Peterson were able to give the Mets four innings.
As has been the case for Blevins most of this season, it did not go great.
Blevins allowed solo home runs to Enrique Hernandez and Max Muncy in the top of the first inning. He settled down to throw a 1-2-3 second inning, though. His ERA now sits at 5.30.
Peterson relieved Blevins in the third inning and was also unable to keep the ball in the park. After a 1-2-3 third inning, Cody Bellinger took Peterson deep to give the Dodgers a 3-2 lead.
The Mets bats were able to keep their team in the game, delivering four runs of their own in the first five innings.
