In the final two games against the Diamondbacks, and in their series against the Phillies (all wins), the Mets bullpen had a 1.38 ERA.
[avatar name="baron"]Michael Baron: As bad as the bullpen was last week, is as good as it's been this week. Overall, it's been a roller-coaster all season. Frankly, a second left-handed pitcher would have been useful at points this season, which I think could help make them more consistent.
Terry Collins said last weekend the Mets had been considering adding a second lefty to the bullpen, and Josh Edgin stands out as the best choice among minor league options. It's possible Edgin could replace Miguel Batista in the bullpen once Chris Young returns.
Earlier this week on WFAN, Tim Byrdak said, based on what he saw in Spring Training, he believes Edgin is already capable of pitching in the big leagues.
"Once he gets some consistency with his breaking ball, the sky is the limit for him," Byrdak said. "He's got a powerful arm and he really impressed a lot of people."
Edgin's pitching coach at Triple-A, Mark Brewer, recently told 1520 AM in Buffalo that the young lefty has been working to get more break on his slider.
